TULIP MANIA............ BY GEORGE
A matter of
choice...... or is it?
As many of you know, performance
enhancing drugs are probably widely used in all sports and
most especially in Olympic sports. I can't but help to
think that if performance enhancing drugs were legalized in
all sports, that many benefits would become apparent. One
benefit would be much healthier drugs for the athletes.
Reliable drug companies would become interested in producing
the better performance enhancing drugs and it could be a
step forward to a more level playing field. To help you
make this or any other decision go to this website.

As a so-called high‑tech society, on the brink of both a fantastic future and self‑annihilation, we suffer from that old Chinese curse: "May you live in interesting times." But precepts handed down from thousands of years ago could never anticipate today's awesome challenges: the genetic engineering of life forms, the creation of synthetic minds, the use of nuclear power. The genie is out of its lamp and we cannot put it back. Our salvation requires a modern wisdom, based on both our current understanding and our heritage.
As far back as I can remember I have been preoccupied by a single question: "What is really going on here?" Of course, depending on where 'here' is, asking the question may be all I can hope for. Ø As a computer scientist, my professional curiosity involves artificial intelligence and software engineering. Ø As a philosophy of science buff, the question begs me to ponder our relationship to the universe at large. Ø As a futurist, it compels me to project observable trends forward in time. Ø And as a humble human being, I am driven to the timeless mysteries of mortality, morality, and God.
Why bother speculating about such deep, unanswerable questions? Isn't your favourite church the place for this? Indeed, every culture, past and present, is chock-a-block with religious soothsayers. It's ironic how credulous we can be when self‑serving mortals glibly ply us with their diverse yet dogmatic theologies, yet be so oblivious to the hymns constantly sung by our self‑less, immortal universe. Nature's secrets, when unlocked, bear directly on questions that are vital to both our civilizations and our souls.
Epistemology, biology, cosmology, futurology, sociology, theology – big words, heavy subjects. What is really going on here? These topics probably seem hopelessly obscure and unrelated, even a foolish waste of time. But for over thirty years now, I have been struck by what appears to be a sublime coherence among them, a theme that is the genesis of this talk.
My purpose is twofold: 1. First, to share in simple terms the excitement of where we seem to be going based on where we have come from. Four nascent disciplines – thermonuclear fusion, artificial intelligence, genetic engineering, and social engineering – are destined to endow mankind with the power to evoke the most profound events since the origin of life itself. We stand on the brink of an infinite number of possible futures. We must perceive their possibilities, including the many ways to self-destruct, and make rational choices. Ignorance is not bliss. Fatalism is worse. If we shrink from our task of converting chaos into knowledge, chaos must reign. 2. My second purpose is more subtle: To suggest that a rational approach to essentially theological issues can be far more satisfying than blind faith. Beyond mere satisfaction, beliefs based on informed speculation, constrained by existing evidence and accepted scientific understanding are vital for shaping our culture's goals and priorities.
I encourage everyone to participate vigorously. If we are ever to take charge of our own destinies, all shackles on rational thought must be broken. As with certain TV shows, I should caution you: this material may offend believers in the supernatural. So hang onto your hats as we prepare to explore well beyond the anthropocentric, or human‑centred world‑view.
I have a fool’s audacity to try to answer a central question: what is likely to become of life as we know it? My preferred answer pivots on the premise that in the next few centuries this corner of the universe may achieve the pre‑conditions for a radically new form of evolution. To provide leverage for my fulcrum we begin with:
Our Cosmic Roots. Consider this perspective on the current scientific consensus of how we came to be. From the beginning of time until now, our corner of the universe has undergone the first three steps in the evolutionary staircase to destiny – cosmic, chemical, and biological.
Cosmic evolution began some 13.8 billion years ago with the Big Bang. In a nutshell, so to speak, our tiny universe contained only a stupendously hot, dense plasma, briefly inflating much faster than light. About 300,000 years after the Big Bang, the universe had cooled enough that the two lightest elements, hydrogen and helium, condensed directly out of the plasma. Soon after, gravity collapsed some of the hydrogen and helium into the first stars, a process that continues even now.
Stars are the universe’s power houses. The fantastic gravitational pressures deep inside force lighter nuclei to fuse together, thus forming heavier elements. For elements up to iron, excess energy is released in the fusion process, so those elements form in all stars. But to fuse elements beyond iron requires so much energy, they can only be created during the collapse of the massive stars we call novas and supernovas.
Many generations of novas, whose lives are much shorter than normal stars, had to come and go before enough star dust – literally the ashes of stellar explosions – could perfuse the cosmos to the point where later generations of stars and their planets would evolve the proportions of elements that we see here on Earth. What’s important to realize is that only after cosmic evolution had achieved a certain level of complexity could a fundamentally new kind of evolution begin: chemistry.
Chemical evolution operates by wholly different rules. Fusion bonds nucleons together. Chemistry bonds atoms together, with no new elements produced. Chemistry cannot occur inside stars; it requires the kind of stability that planets provide. Whereas there are just over 100 elements, the number of possible chemical compounds is infinite. The potential for complexity and diversity is far beyond anything that cosmic evolution can produce. Yet there is a similarity here. Both forms of evolution result in the accumulation of larger, more complex yet persistent structures.
Laboratory experiments reveal amino acids and other organic precursors of life forming spontaneously under conditions like the early Earth. While many details remain unsettled, scientists have no doubt that natural self-organizing principles, operating randomly on inanimate organic compounds, eventually resulted in a structure that could replicate. Given an environment rich in that structure’s building blocks – also known as food – it’s easy to guess what happened next. Notice again that only after chemical evolution had achieved a certain level of complexity could a fundamentally new kind of evolution begin: biology.
And again, biological evolution operates by wholly different rules; to be specific, they operate upon replicating systems whose variations differentially affect their success in the face of Nature’s tendency towards breakdown, chaos – aka the Second Law of Thermodynamics. And so the Earth has born witness to 4 billion years of gradually increasing complexity, from microscopic single cells to the prodigious diversity of life we see today.
Despite huge differences in the rules by which these three evolutionary modes operate, they share a common theme. Each type of evolution enables a successor that is capable of yielding stable structures of much greater diversity and behavioural complexity. The complexity of any organism, for example, dwarfs that of all chemical compounds being synthesized by non-living processes. This pattern implies that we human beings are still far from the destiny of Creation. We have resulted from just the third step in a possibly endless evolutionary staircase.
Today, we stand At The Brink, poised between self‑destructive and fantastic futures. The secret of our collective survival lies in the relationship between order and chaos. Theorists such as Stuart Kauffman, a luminary of the Santa Fe Institute and recipient of a McArthur “Genius” Award, have shown that sufficiently complex systems spontaneously evolve toward the boundary between order and chaos. This is good news and bad news.
The good news is that life is most interesting and novel in and around that boundary. Unfortunately, the ever more potent powers we unlock allow ever larger excursions from that boundary. This means risky behaviours can ever more easily trip our entire planet into a chaos from which we cannot recover. Manmade global warming, for example, may trigger a runaway greenhouse effect that causes the oceans to boil – a Venus-like fate. On the other hand, it will also become easier and easier for powerful vested interests to spawn a rigidity that stymies our collective ability to respond to catastrophic threats, e.g., a large asteroid impact. Too much order or too much chaos, either can be globally lethal.
If we are to have any hope of getting to the next evolutionary rung, our first order of business must be to better manage the risks we run – technology is not neutral in its potential for benefit or harm. For every constructive application there are many malevolent ones, not to mention the law of unintended “oops” effects. As Sun Microsystems’s Bill Joy said in his famous Wired Magazine[1] article, “we must take seriously the fact that it is becoming easier and easier for the hackers and otherwise deranged of this world to trigger globally destructive effects,” such as virulent pathogens engineered to resist all treatments
And our dilemma is by no means unique to this nook of the universe. Perhaps very few civilizations in the cosmos succeed in avoiding self‑annihilation to climb the next evolutionary rung. This is consistent with SETI’s (Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence) total lack of results, despite more than 40 years of searching. An utterly objective “morality” exists in which civilizations that are unable to constructively apply knowledge must self‑destruct, while those with the requisite wisdom can climb the staircase to destiny: perhaps unlocking the secrets of this universe that could lead ultimately to the power of its creation.
Indeed, social engineering will entail altering our genetic makeup and our social rules to the point where behaviour such as terrorism that increasingly afflicts society on a planetary scale, ceases to be possible in practice, if not in theory. The trick will be to do all this without foreclosing on innovation and risk taking.
Let’s be optimistic, then, and assume that we really do survive our own intelligence. What are the preconditions for crossing over to the next evolutionary epoch? Today they are in their infancy, and may take us a few more centuries to truly master. Here is a brief sketch of each:
Controlled Thermonuclear Fusion
There is a very real sense in which we cannot come of age in this universe until we master its basic power source. Yes we’ve made enough thermonuclear bombs to turn the Earth into rubble, but until we can harness this power safely, cheaply, and cleanly we are not there yet.
Each gallon of water on the planet contains enough cheaply recoverable deuterium (hydrogen plus a neutron) to produce energy in a fusion reactor equivalent to 300 gallons of gasoline. And that’s just for starters. One gram of matter, a fingernail clipping, yields 25 Million kilowatt-hours of energy via E = Mc2. We are literally awash in energy that we are yet too ignorant to know how to harness, much less to control.
Why do we need to master fusion power? Because it will forever change our relationships with ourselves and our environment. The basis of all economic activity is energy. We are dependent on each other for survival because the resources we need are too expensive for each of us to acquire on our own. If energy was essentially free, each individual would find mere survival trivial. The need to “earn a living” would reduce to spending no more than 1% of our time tending to the “cornucopia machines,” producing food, shelters, capital works projects, and the like. We would have the means not merely to control weather and move mountains, but to create and live on artificial planets. The next evolutionary epoch may demand such a move, but more on this later.
Artificial Intelligence
Today many people deny that thinking machines are even possible, just as they thought flying machines were impossible before the Wright Brothers. Yes the problems are much harder than AI’s pioneers thought. But sooner or later we can expect machines to excel in general purpose learning and problem solving, including learning how to make better problem solvers. And then the world will quickly become a much different place.
Will intelligent robots replace us or have us as pets? I strongly doubt it. We’ve already connected our neurons to silicon chips, allowing the blind and deaf a measure of sight and hearing. Laboratory demonstrations already show people controlling computers wirelessly, through pure thought. No, we will incorporate artificial intelligence into ourselves, prosthetics for the mind. As an aside, something called the CTD Principle (Church Turing Deutsch) implies that no intelligence in the universe can ever be beyond our ken – it’s purely a matter of band-width. (If you really want to know what I just said, please ask me at the end.)
It should be obvious why mastery of AI is a precondition for the next evolutionary epoch. Emancipating ourselves from the highly limited bandwidth of our 1.6 liter brains will be just as potent as emancipating ourselves from energy dependency. I shall return to AI when we look more directly at the next epoch. Genetic Engineering
Of all the preconditions, genetic engineering has had the most public exposure recently. So, I’ll say the least about it here. Mastery of this field entails being able to predict the detailed result of drafting or changing any genetic blueprint. Clearly we are a long way from this level of mastery. But the motivation is certainly there. Just why this is a precondition should be obvious to most of you, and will become even more obvious after we discuss the next epoch.
Social Engineering
As I’ve hinted, the next evolutionary epoch will produce systems on a scale as far beyond what biology can produce, as biology transcends chemistry, and chemistry transcends the elements. The exquisite beauty and fragility of the structures that will evolve will require protection from malevolence and the “oops effects”. We need to take steps to survive our own intelligence!
By extrapolating from what we already know is possible, what kind of beings, life‑styles, and cultures are in store for our descendants – that is, for those who dare? For example, consider how extremely limited our senses are: we can see only a tiny fraction of the electromagnetic spectrum; we can hear only a tiny range of sound; our tolerance for temperature is likewise very limited; our brains are not up to the myriad interrelated challenges now confronting humanity. What if we could amplify our sensory inputs and brain powers ten-fold or more? What if we could control the design and shape of our bodies? What if we could live healthy lives for as long as we like – achieve de facto immortality? For me these prospects are tremendously exciting. For most of us, such ideas are very scary.
[How many people would like to live forever?]
I suspect that only a small fraction of the population will possess the mastery, means, and motivation to cross over to a post-human existence. The vast majority of humanity will neither understand nor want to be part of something so patently radical. Indeed the conservatives will want to ban such endeavours. So to avoid conflict, the venue for the great sundering will likely be colonies in space, fusion-powered cylinders many kilometres in diameter, slowly rotating to simulate gravity and possessing a benign climate,
an artificial Earth without the limitations and problems of our cosmic cradle. Humans on Earth will decouple from the self-mutants in space, the two having as much concern for each other as apes have for humans, and visa versa.
Let’s imagine what could become of those who do step through the portal. First and foremost will be our ability to survive independently and indefinitely – de facto immortality. This entails capabilities at two levels: individuals will be empowered to design, construct, maintain, and evolve their own bodies; societies will be responsible to sequester complete backups of such individuals – their current physical state together with all their personality and memory data. Thus should a catastrophe destroy one’s current incarnation, what we would call death, one is literally reincarnated – rebuilt and restarted from the most recent intact backup, the net effect being a period of amnesia since that backup was made. Clearly, Darwinian rules of survival and evolution no longer apply.
The very thought of thriving for thousands perhaps even billions of years may be mind blowing enough. But that is not the half of it. Immortals will be physically and mentally unique in ways that go far beyond anything possible today. For example, individuals will design themselves to be comfortable living in very different environments; some may want to live in the vacuum of space, others at the bottom of an ocean. All our senses, if we wish, will be expanded a thousand-fold – we might choose to see the world directly in light spanning frequencies from microwave to x-ray. Likewise we will be free to design our senses of touch, smell, taste, hearing, and temperature; even “see” those phenomena, like magnetism, to which we are now totally insensate.
Of course, we will need much bigger and better minds with which to make sense of this extraordinary richness of inputs and outputs. And we will need those minds for other reasons as well; just consider the scope and scale of unintended effects that we need to avoid when we have access to limitless amounts of the universe’s fundamental power source. Given a society of de facto immortals, each endowed with huge and divergent perceptual and intellectual capabilities, they will want to enjoy each other’s unique perspectives on the world, and will want to engage in personal and group intercourse that make the delights and pleasures of our existences puny indeed.
It is most important to keep in mind that we need not give up any of the constructive abilities and drives we now possess; be they sensorial, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, sexual, altruitional, or whatever. Instead, we gain the ability to amplify all of them, both within ourselves and our societies. What must go are the reckless and malicious behaviours that lead to self-extinction; they are totally incompatible with the fantastically complex entities and structures that will self-evolve in the next epoch.
In particular, a group of immortals may want to merge, virtually or physically, to produce a collective consciousness, as if the group were a single living organism. When individuals join groups they will have to be willing to alter themselves so as to be unable to violate the membership rules. In turn, groups are members of groups, and similar conditions will apply, right up to the entire society. There will also have to be rules controlling the creation of new immortals, and the characteristics they can have. This is what social engineering is really all about in the new epoch.
Should an individual or group decide they no longer want to abide by the rules, rule amendment rules can be invoked. If that fails to satisfy the contrarians, they are always free to quit a group, or physically leave and start up a new society far enough away that mutual interference becomes highly unlikely. Because such immortals also command immense energy resources and know-how, extremely different life-styles and world-views will be quite feasible, perhaps even the norm. Incredibly rich and diverse societies will evolve, with individuals living vicariously through each other’s unique perspectives. Clearly, whole new moral, ethical, and governance systems will have to be invented and proven before social engineering is mastered. Of course, my own mind is far too puny to do more than hint at the possibilities.
In conclusion, my thesis is that information – or equivalently: the ability to sustain a dynamic balance between chaos and order – replaces energy as the ultimate determinate of value and currency.
Boring?: NO! Infinitely many problems. Almost all are computationally impossible. . But they can admit of partial solutions. Intelligence: the Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence has, after 50 years, come up with zip, not even a whisper. What does that tell you? Thank goodness there are trillions of planets where life is happening, because the odds of making it through the “intelligence crisis” are probably very poor. Purpose: to innovatively combat the 2nd Law while remaining close to the order/chaos boundary. Life after death: today it is an oxymoron, but in the 4th Epoch, get hit with a bus and you have true life after death – a far more satisfying promise. God? Arthur C. Clarke: any sufficiently advanced civilization will be indistinguishable from magic. IF God exists, it may take billions of years before we understand how to understand God.
I cannot even imagine what the fifth evolutionary step might
be, except to speculate that if the information ever becomes
known that permits entropy reductions on a cosmic scale, our
descendants will have achieved god-like knowledge and power.
In the brief time I’ve had to tease you with my thoughts of the far out future, I have had to omit many details and interesting side topics. I hope you have enjoyed being teased like this and want to explore more for yourselves. Perhaps my next step should be to start a weblog that can be enriched by the feedback of thoughtful people like you.

THE APPROACH TO TULIP MANIA
by George Grant
CONTENTS:(1) What Is "Money" and the "Money Supply"?
(2) Can We Create Money
with Our Credit Cards?
(3) Who Controls the Money Supply?(4) If This Control Goes Awry, What Can We Do About It?(1) WHAT IS BANK MONEY AND THE MONEY SUPPLY?Imagine you were sitting in your clunker of a car, near a bank, and wondering how you could get money for a new car. The "money idea" could come to mind and say "let's go in and borrow the money!" You go on in and a bank representative, in return for your security or promise to repay with interest, LENDS you the money, in the process CREATING new bank IOU debt money, say $20,000 @ 10%, out of thin air! What is this money? It is a bank debt, obligation to pay, or IOU, which can be transferred to others as a means of payment, leaving you with a new car and a debt-plus-interest to repay. In order to repay your loan-plus-interest, you have to earn more than $20,000 from others holding bank-loan money. This means that banks collectively must repeatedly lend more-than-$20,000 plus interest plus interest again and again to others, resulting in exponential increases in the MONEY SUPPLY, or sum of bank debts, just to keep the system going. If they don't, you won't be able to repay your $22,000, the bank will take back your car or more, and the possibility of a string of bankruptcies opens up. But exponential increases in the money supply eventually become so large that individual bank IOU-dollars gradually or quickly lose their value, with no escape.(2) CAN WE "CREATE MONEY" WITH OUR CREDIT CARDS?Suppose you take your new car to the grocery store, and pay for your groceries with your "credit" card, really your "permission to borrow bank debt, create money and pay others with it" card. What you have done is to take out another bank loan, without the intervention of a bank representative, and thus create more money! Does the credit card create the money? Not really: the bank has offered you "open sesame" to its bank-loan money-creation powers, created a debt for you to pay with interest, and paid the grocery store which accepted your credit-card "money". Business is prosperous, and we are a "debt-money" society. But credit-card money is created almost without control, except when the credit cards are "maxed out" or when higher interest rates or poor business conditions/credit ratings impose limits on what people can borrow. Then, when people are not borrowing to the limit, our "debt economy" can get into trouble! To repeat, money is created when a bank creates a loan or an IOU "credit", transferable to a seller, in return for taking on a loan obligation of a debt-paying-interest to the bank. This bank-IOU-for-your-IOU is new money which increases the money supply (sum of bank IOUs, which can cause inflation), which in the case of credit cards is without direct control, except by credit limits on your card(s). The Central Bank "bank rate" is almost irrelevant, since interest rates on credit card loan money are so much higher.Note: The above "money supply" is a static concept: this much money at an instant of time. But each dollar can be spent a number of times on average in a year, creating a "flow" of "income", national income or gross domestic product, measured in dollars per year.(3) WHO OR WHAT, THEN, CONTROLS OR LIMITS THE MONEY SUPPLY?The Bank of Canada, or Central Bank, is charged with controlling or limiting the money supply, to keep the economy prosperous without too much inflation. To understand how it does this near-impossible task, we need a little historical background. Some centuries ago, people with bullion-wealth would keep some of their gold and silver in the safety vaults of goldsmiths, who issued receipts (IOU 1 oz, gold, or IOU 1 pound Sterling silver). These later took the form of "bank notes", which were "convertible" into gold or silver; i.e. their owners could get gold or silver in return for the notes. When these receipts or notes became trusted as convertible into gold, ie "as good as gold", they were accepted in trade and payments as "confidence" money. Eventually, given this confidence, goldsmith-bankers were able to issue more receipts than for which they had gold "backing". But when this was suspected, a scare could lead to a sudden "run on the banks" with some banks becoming "bankrupt" and receipt owners holding worthless notes. Later, this fraudulent practice was justified by government as "fractional reserve banking", which was necessary to avoid a monetary collapse and was good for business while it lasted. The fraudulent notes were made legal, as "legal tender" ie you had to accept them, to form the basis of our present banking system. Central Banks were established to pool the remaining banks' gold, and to control the issue of legal tender notes and deposits, by requiring the chartered banks to keep a certain "reserve ratio" of gold in the Central Bank for each dollar of legal tender money. Over time, this reserve ratio was reduced, by the government at the urging of the banks, to a minuscule fraction. The only effective control left over the supply of money was the Central Bank's control over its interest rate, the "Bank Rate", which effectively set the level of interest rates charged by the chartered banks, and thus hopefully controlled the level of economic activity and the rate of inflation. This Bank Rate control is very blunt. For example, raising interest rates to quell inflation increases costs, only works if the interest rate is higher than the rate of inflation of assets people are investing their money in, brings down inflation by bringing on recession, and only works if there are no serious non-monetary factors raising costs, taxes and prices. Perhaps more important, it does not restore a "backing" to money - you can only get a backing by buying real assets and sending their prices up, as many people are starting to do. This could escalate if it speeds up: hence the "Tulip Mania" title to this letter. The remaining check or backing that money has is the "confidence" that people can buy the same basket of goods with each dollar over time, and that there will not be rapid inflation. This confidence is eroding and thereby causing the threat of inflation and eventually worthless money and economic collapse to be taken seriously, and hidden! In light of the above, the earlier observation that bank-money-supplies-lent-at-interest must grow without end or crash, plus the previous letter's figures showing that money supplies have in fact been growing rapidly and that inflation was much faster than the official Consumer Price Index, now take on extra significance. They strongly suggest that the fractional-reserve debt-money system is eventually doomed to collapse, bringing our economy down with it, as it has done repeatedly in many countries over time.(4) IF THIS CONTROL GOES AWRY, WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT?The first thing to say is that you cannot do anything about it individually. You must join in the search for a workable monetary system, and not be put off by official utterances or concentration on other serious problems. We need a workable monetary system if we are to solve other problems, and this letter tries, below, to put forward an outline of a suggested system. The related problems of exponential growth of the money supply, and of money-supplies-lent-at-interest-and-therefore-HAVING-to continue-growing-rapidly-to-prevent-a-rapid-collapse, are NOT SOLVABLE WITH AN UNBACKED MONETARY SYSTEM, but they also are NOT SOLVABLE WITH A BACKED MONETARY SYSTEM ALONE.The first monetary system leads to infinity and worthlessness, while the second monetary system leads to deflationary collapse. Therefore, WE MUST HAVE TWO MONETARY SYSTEMS RUNNING IN PARALLEL, to keep the economy prosperous despite continuing inflation, and to keep the money valuable despite continuing inflation. This is my recommendation:A. MAINTAIN the present system, with gradual reforms, to prevent deflationary collapse; B. INTRODUCE A PARALLEL GOLD-BACKED SYSTEM, to prevent hyper-inflationary collapse;as follows:HAVE THE GOVERNMENT MINT COINS CONTAINING A SMALL AMOUNT OF GOLD, WITH AN INITIAL FACE VALUE HIGHER THAN THE GOLD CONTENT VALUE. THEN SELL AND/OR DISTRIBUTE THESE COINS AT GOVERNMENT OUTLETS, SO THAT CITIZENS WOULD HAVE A "HARD-MONEY" SAVINGS VEHICLE TO PROTECT THEMSELVES AGAINST INFLATION, WHILE THE ECONOMY IS KEPT GOING IN A MINIMALLY INFLATIONARY WAY BY THE REFORMED PRESENT SYSTEM. THE INFLATED/DEVALUED DOLLARS COULD PERIODICALLY LOSE A DECIMAL POINT, BUT "REAL VALUE" WOULD BE MAINTAINED IN TERMS OF THE GOLD-BACKED GOVERNMENT CURRENCY.There is an uncontrolled variant of the above system in operation already (!), with potentially dire consequences. Individuals and corporations, with the ability to multiply their monetary assets at more than exponential rates, are already buying up gold, land, real estate, corporations and banks, borrowing yet more on the strength of their rising real asset values and pushing up the already-inflationary values of real assets. Eventually land becomes so expensive that it is "uneconomic" to farm, housing becomes so expensive that it creates a soaring homeless population, and "inflation" if it is realistically measured becomes so rapid that the authorities are forced to crack down, and we are beyond the crash of the "Tulip Mania" before we know it.P.S. Lest readers think that the above is too theoretical, let them consider the following: The land around our property, bought recently for the outlandish price of $10 million, will not be farmed by the buyers for several years. it seems to be purely "speculative", or is it a wise inflationary investment, pushing up the prices of the surrounding properties, as cities do on a grander scale?
Happy Holidays...................
Belated??
Prevention of Collapse......... By
George
Introducing...... The Wallas Well Being
Index
Although the letter below is written in relation to the holiday season, you may find it useful for holidays or celebrations to come throughout the year.....
HAPPY HOLIDAYS... ‘tis the season to become stressed
Why are holidays and special occasions often very stressful periods for most people? Perhaps it’s partly because these occasions are steeped in family tradition with a strong emphasis on being happy and “getting it right”.
It may be helpful to realize that the “picture book” holiday is not a reality for many people. Some individuals can’t afford it and many are not close to their own families. Others have unpleasant memories and hurtful experiences from holidays gone by which makes them feel that they don’t measure up. If there is an unresolved issue anywhere such as a past death, or a strained parental relationship or a difficult work situation, it is magnified during the holidays. A person may cope by overindulging on things like food, alcohol and spending money.
We attempt to fix our past problems by trying to create the perfect holiday experience that we missed out on growing up. We cook feasts, entertain, clean up, spend money and time fighting shopping crowds, and pack our family into the vehicle for a nomadic journey from house to house for repeated celebrations. We subject ourselves to difficult relatives or acquaintances and spend the day trying to avoid unpleasant greetings and experiences. Overall, for many individuals, the festivities seem to revolve around everybody else’s schedules and we do not enjoy ourselves.
When it is over, we are left with a big clean up process. We now have ten or twenty pounds to lose, a maxed out credit card to pay off and a whole bunch of sleep and rest to catch up on. Unfortunately, now our vacation is finished and there’s no time left over to repair our spirit.
If your only explanation for feeling burdened, broke, overwhelmed or guilt, is “because I’ve always celebrated that way”, it may be time to address any underlying issues. Begin by asking yourself “how is my approach to the holidays working for me?”. If you simply can’t wait until the festivities are over, you may need to change how you approach the season and define some new traditions, just for you and your own family.
It is not your role to keep the family peace or resolve their grievances regardless of the cost to your own well being. In fact, you are responsible only for your own actions and for taking care of yourself. The better you understand yourself the more effectively you may be able to avoid, or cope constructively with uncomfortable situations.
For example:
Once the holidays are over, whether you neglected your physical, emotional and spiritual needs or practiced regular self soothing activities, your daily regime will resume. If you understand that you are as important as everybody else you can respect your own needs for rest, reflection and self care. You will arrive at the other end of the festive season with a readiness to ease back into your daily routines without a whole list of “self-repairs” to address.

PREVENTION OF COLLAPSE
By George Grant Dec. 9, 2006
A. EXPANSION AND SUPPORT OF THE INFLATION AND RECESSION ARGUMENT.
In the previous letter, it was argued that:
(1) Increases in the supply of money, or money inflation, tend to increase the prices of inflation-hedge and luxury assets, and essentials like food, oil and houses, all under-weighted in the official Consumer Price Index or CPI. This CPI index is used to "index" pensions, some wages, payments to provinces, guide economic and monetary policy and tell the public that inflation is under control. But the under-stated CPI helps lower the rate of interest, speed up increases in the money supply, and thus increase the rate of price inflation, which it then hides. Constantly rising prices then tend to increase demand and prices for inflation-hedge items, as do population and GDP expansions, thus speeding up the approach to runaway inflation and economic collapse, which these letters warn against. The facts that price inflation is related to money supply expansion, but money supply expansion has recently run ahead of the rate of reported CPI price increases, are illustrated in Table 1 below:
Table 1. Rates of Growth of M1 and CPI Compared, 1966 to 2006. (Rounded Numbers) (% of 1966 numbers of dollars M1, as % of CPI% of 1966)
A(M1) (B(CPI) A as % % Increase % of 1966 % of 1966 of B in A over B No. of M1$ Value of CPI % %
1966 100% 100% 100% 0

Note: M1 moved very roughly in line with the CPI until recently; But in the past few years, M1 has run away from CPI as measured; Suggesting that the CPI understates monetary inflation.
(2) When price rises are reported to be slow, the resulting low interest rates lead to fast-rising money supplies, and stock market price indices tend to break all records, as argued in the previous letter and as they have done. Rising price stocks and houses then encourage and enable more consumer spending financed by debt, which accelerates the rises in the supply of money and in true monetary inflation. This rise in debt makes consumers, workers, investors and businesses vulnerable to many types of shock, perhaps especially rising interest rates on mortgages and investment loans. As a result, the Central Bank becomes reluctant to raise interest rates, and inflation goes on longer, unchecked. One worry is that that there are hundreds of TRILLIONS of dollars of derivatives debts which could be wiped out, bringing down the largest of banks, and destroying bank money overnight.
(3) In times of continuing inflation, more people turn to inflation-hedge assets, pushing up their prices and accelerating inflation; this makes money look like a bad investment and speeds up spending thus increasing inflation more. It may take a large increase in interest rates to stop such ingrained price inflation; but the higher interest rates will probably result in many bankruptcies, foreclosed mortgages, high unemployment, great investment losses and recession. This is a well-known argument, but the inevitability of it means that people will have to prepare themselves and their government for BOTH INFLATION AND RECESSION, followed by desperate printing of money and - eventually, over one or two cycles - a total collapse of our "confidence" money, backed by nothing, system.
(4) The previous letter then recommended some "hard" or "inflation-hedge" investments, such as houses, cottages, land, gold and silver, art, oil stocks and self-sufficiency assets. But these are not enough to ride out a collapse, because we face inflation-with-recession, then more rapid inflation, then high-interest-rate depression, then physical collapse or money-printing / hyper-inflationary collapse, and we find ourselves in a 'dead" WAR-TORN ECONOMY with nothing working. Accordingly, investments alone will not work (except total self-sufficiency), and we need also to solve the above dynamics to keep our "real" economic system going. In the previous issue, a system of MONETARY REFORM, with gradual introduction of gold-backed money, was recommended. Now we need to go further, to understand the need for PARALLEL CURRENCIES, assisted by a little historical analysis.
B. HISTORICAL ANALYSIS
Historically, when populations were smaller and money supplies were scant, the price of land in a given country was low in money terms. However, as populations grew and money supplies were expanded, the same land exploded in (average) price. This price increase was due both to scarcity of land in relation to population, and to money supply increases; but it cannot be slower than money supply increases. Today there are many countries where land is so expensive that it is UNECONOMIC to farm, and money is so cheap that it may not be accepted as payment for land (you have to pay in U.S. dollars, for now). Farmers are "land rich but cash poor", as the saying goes: millionaires but poor. Regardless, money supplies keep on expanding until they can hardly pay for multi-billion-dollar land and real estate deals, million-dollar-plus cottages, or thousand-Canadian-dollar ounces of gold; and we have to watch while international pools of capital buy up our key industries and real estate developments and land: money buying income support in real terms while it can. Environmental and resource costs skyrocket, yet authorities say there is little inflation and print money and go to war. Better-off parents may want to buy their children houses, but most cannot afford what they used to buy; almost everyone has to take out a mortgage, putting themselves and the nation more and more heavily into risky debt, with larger and larger money supplies to finance debt and inflation. China has over a trillion U.S. dollars in reserves, yet it cannot cash them for fear of undermining the dollar.
Eventually, the Central Bank and opinion makers say: "that's enough", as price inflation soars, and the Bank clamps down on money supply expansion with higher interest rates, bringing on recession (and higher costs!). In this indebted state, the consequences of high-interest-rate recession can be so severe that soon the Central Bank has to ease up and print low-interest-rate money again, re-starting inflation before it has stopped. The "trade cycle" becomes a "money cycle", more and more unstable, and people wonder what to do to protect themselves and to invest their money. These questions are difficult to answer because IF ALL MONEY WAS GOLD-BACKED AND LIMITED IN SUPPLY, WE WOULD SUBSTITUTE MORE DEPRESSION FOR MORE INFLATION IN THE CYCLE. Therefore, to escape an inflationary collapse without bringing on a deflationary collapse, we need a DUAL OR PARALLEL CURRENCY, convertible into confidence money, the confidence money remaining plentiful to keep the economy going, and the gold-backed money scarce to retain value and keep paper money in its place: the two monies remaining convertible at a market rate of exchange, to tie them to a convertible, divisible, tradable, portable, scarce and desirable asset, and to prevent creation of unbacked money leading to runaway inflationary or rundown deflationary collapse.

George

INTRODUCING THE WALLAS WELL-BEING INDEX
1) The numbers are based on their prevalence per 100,000 people. 2) The higher the number, the better. 3) The indexes are chosen objectively to eliminate bias. 4) There are nine categories: Culture Index - an indication of the quantity and variety of entertainment available in this city. Business Index - an indication of opportunities for employment. Education Index - an indication of the number and variety of educational opportunities available for children and adults. Justice Index – indicates the availability of specialized legal services. Health Index - the availability of doctors and medical services for newcomers . Diversity Index – A measure of the number of the different religious faiths and places of worship available in the community . Sports Index – An indication of the number of different sports available. Air Pollution Index - indicates possibility of CO2 emissions and asthma pollutants. Water Pollution – indication of necessity to treat water. Composite Well-being Index – The composite average of all of the above indexes.
Below is a sample of 4 cities:
If you would like to have us send you a comparison of two or more areas, please e-mail us the cities at jwallas@nextcom.ca . There will be a charge of $25.00 for two comparisons and $35.00 for 3 comparisons. If you would like more than that, we would be glad to negotiate a fee. We expect to be able to respond in 4 to 6 days by e-mail. A larger group comparison would take a bit longer.

DO WE NEED ............. A BIG CHANGE? I THINK SHE’S................. MAD ARE YOU LOOKING TO MAKE........... A DIFFERENCE? THE CLINTON GLOBAL INITIATIVE............ WHAT'S THE PRICE OF.......... GOLD?
Do we need..........a big change? Do we need a political party more in tune with the environment? The Green Party is more in tune with the needs of the people, somebody to articulate peace and better peacekeeping. The municipal elections are going strong right now and we have many green type candidates. Do your homework and support all the green candidates that you can. Fine their addresses and send them ten dollars or volunteer to help them in some way. You don't need to live in their riding and if you don't have a green candidate in your area, support one somewhere else. In Barrie, Eric Jacoby-Hawkins deserves support in ward 10 so talk to him and see if you can help him in any way....especially with your vote. There are many municipalities where there are greener candidates. This could help to make a big change.

Are you looking to make...............a difference? Are you looking to make a difference? Like having your own web page for instance? It seems like everybody is into selling web pages. There are many good people into creating web pages and I have a couple myself. Just be sure that the people or the system is correct for you so that you don't overspend. The Clinton Global Initiative............. On August 2, 2006 former president Bill Clinton called many of the world's most influential and wealthy peole to attend the second annual meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative, or CGI in New York City. The CGI is set up to tackle the problems of the world health, regional conflict, poverty and climate change. Those present included Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan, First Lady Laura Bush, Tony Blair, 50 current and former heads of state and mayors of the major world cities. The meeting had two objectives.....to raise money, hopefully more than last years $2.5 billion, and to discuss ideas of how to solve the complex problems facing the world. Last years meeting gained pledges of $2.5 billion to fight poverty and health problems. Clinton said that he was tired of conferences on important world issues that ended up all talk and no action. He wanted those who made pledges to fulfill them or they would not be invited to future meetings. The fact of global warming has been accepted he said, and now there has to be a plan to reduce the amount of carbon emissions in practical and measurable ways. Lloyd Geake
What's the price of.............gold? Because!Because!Because!Because of the turmoil in the world with North Korea and Iran, gold and silver stocks are going to be a good investment for years to come. Are you going to get a free Tim Horton’s Coffee this week?
My Friend …….. Bill
My friend has a Ford Focus that needs a handyman owner . Probably a younger person that could repair a head gasket for example. He is willing to let it go for $2000.00 (firm) when it is probably worth a lot more. If you can’t afford a Hi-bred electric then this is a good deal as a first car. Phone Bill at (705) 431-6330 for more details. Keep trying to get him home.
Air Quality ………Could be better
Air Quality everywhere could be better if we have uranium power generation. We can all contribute to better air by conserving on our electric power use; if you can afford it buy a electric Hi-bred car which shuts off at a red light. A Hi-bred works like a Fly-Wheel and uses a electric motor to supply slight additional power to keep it going at the speed limit and therefore conserves gas. If you would like to see if a question like this makes sense go to http://chooseit.sitesell.com/thegreensprout.html
How many ways can you make a …..decision?
A How many ways can you make a decision ? What are really all the alternatives? You can always ask the standard questions. 1 Who Who owns the problem. Whose problem is it? 2 Where Where is the problem occurring? 3 When When does the problem occur? 4 What What is the nature of the problem? 5 Why Why is the What a problem? 6 How How is this a problem? B Brainstorm possible solutions. C Outline criteria you will use to evaluate possible solutions D Choose the best possible solution. E Take Action. F Evaluate.
Do we need to be in Afghanistan?
Answer for yourself by using http://chooseit.sitesell.com/thegreensprout.html
Do you have trouble loosing ……… weight?
A lot of people have trouble loosing weight. I take a prescription tranquilizer and it seems that it is impossible to loose weight even though I exercise 3 to 5 times a week. I have heard of a new program that might help at the www.HealthyDay.net they also have vitamins that will suit the green lifestyle. For more info go to the www.Healthyday.net
Do you read a lot of……………. Books?
I read a lot of books. I really enjoy reading and keeping up with the economy and news. Last year I saved over $136.00 on my I Rewards card at chapters and you can save 40% on books reviewed in the Globe and Mail. You can save to by going to your nearest Chapters store.
Do you have a burning issue or…. A pet peeve?
Do you have a burning issue? Maybe a pet peeve? Would you like a website to sell something or work out of your own house, in your own time at your own speed? Look into it at http://buildit.sitesell.com/thegreensprout.html
There has been an issue with dump site #41 it seems that the municipal council is prepared to make a poor decision by allowing the site to go ahead, even though it is on top of an aquifer and it could impact the quality of some of the best water in the world.
The money could be spent more wisely by improving the recycling program in Simcoe. As it is, less than 50% of articles available for recycling are recycled. That’s a lot to go in a poor dumpsite. We need to redirect our efforts from dumpsites to recycling.
Are you going to get a free Tim Horton’s Coffee this week?
The ECO farmers market is every Friday afternoon from 3:30PM till dusk in Dalston. Be sure and ask for a free Tim Horton’s coffee coupon from Kathy Hall at her booth. Courtesy of www.thegreensprout.com

Do you have to
................Put bread on the table?
Some investments are quite a bit better than
others and uranium stocks are in a vertical uptrend. The price of
uranium has gone from $8.50 to over $43.00. Even if you don't have to
put bread on the table you should consider investing in uranium stocks.
There is no connection between power generation and the Atomic Bomb. It
doesn't have to be that way. For every 1000 megawatt reactor it
eliminates 34000 tons of bad sulfur dioxide and 11000 tons of nitrogen
oxide per year. If you make a nice profit on the stocks you could use
the profit to put solar panels on your house and reduce pollution or
even reduce pollution in other ways. Maybe it would be better to put
bread on the table in a way that makes it better for everybody. A true
win win situation.
Do you have
........................Complicated questions?
Do you have complicated questions that have
so many choices that it paralyzes you? Then you don't know what to do.
There is a software program called
http://chooseit.sitesell.com/thegreensprout.html that takes a
complicated question and puts it in a spread sheet and sorts ideas that
are pertinent to you and your life. If you have a burning question such
as do you want a website or any other question, try it out for free at http://chooseit.sitesell.com/thegreensprout.html
Eric Jacoby-Halkins is a green candidate
in the upcoming Barrie municipal elections in ward #10. He has run
several times federally and has put a lot of effort into the green
movement. He deserves consideration for your support.
Are our American friends
......Loosing influence?
Our American friends have made some dubious
choices in the last few years and it seems that more and more people and
even countries are finding it easier to disagree with the present
administration. The current action of the President of refusing to sign
stem cell research legislation is further indication of his growing
isolation, even in his own country.

PERMACULTURE....................A TERM COINED IN 1959 SHOULD ENVIRONMENTALISTS.............INVEST IN URANIUM? WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE YOUR OWN....................WEB-SITE?
Be sure and visit the organic farmers market in Dalston on Friday nites from 3:30pm til dusk. Click on the link to the left for a list of farmers, their locations and the products they deal in.
PERMACULTURE......................A TERM COINED IN 1959 C. Brad Peterson has a very big interest in permaculture. It has practical answers to questions about human settlement and the wise use of the earth. To find out about the permaculture principals, click onto Brads web-site at www.bradpeterson.ca and find out more.
SHOULD ENVIRONMENTALISTS.....................INVEST IN URANIUM? There has been a lot of talk about uranium and power generation all over the world. Medical doctors are quite fond of taking a little bit of a disease and putting it in a vaccine. The patient gets a little bit of bad stuff and his/her immune system kicks in and protects him/her from something worse. This is exactly what green people should do with investments in uranium. If there is a nice profit, they can use the proceeds to modify the environment easier. If the shareholder base could be broadened with a more enlightened attitude, the whole world might be better off. The reduction in carbon dioxide alone would be staggering. I think improving our environment from carbon dioxide would save more lives than the war on terror and the war on drugs combined. Jack
WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE YOUR OWN.................WEB-SITE? I have wanted my very own web-site for the environment for a long time. After three and a half years, www.thegreensprout.comis up and running. I had many diversions along the way, from family sickness to my own ineptitude with the internet. It has cost me thousands of dollars and is a very steep learning curve. If you want to have your own web-site I would highly recommend http://www.sitesell.com/thegreensprout.html as the best tool for getting a quality web-site for the most reasonable cost. Even if you are an expert and develop websites for others, you should look into this one at http://www.sitesell.com/thegreensprout.html

WHAT IS THE GREEN SPROUT ……….ALL ABOUT?
VERTICAL GARDENS TAKE OVER THE WORLD….A RATIONAL FANTASY
GREEN NEWS AND VIEWS ………..A CORNUCOPIA OF IDEAS AND OPINIONS
WHAT IS
THE GREEN SPROUT ……….ALL ABOUT?
The Green Sprout is about the environment and sustainable ideas in energy, power and politics. It is also about getting mad at politicians in the right amount, at the right time and in proportion to their most wasteful ideas. I want to see us eat organic food, have clean air and the most economical lifestyle. I want to see us all with a balanced life in high states and an attitude that benefits us all. At The Green Sprout, we would like to see everyone with an adequate income and a home to live in that meets their needs and of course timely health care...of course this is not all that we are about but it is a start. VERTICAL GARDENS TAKE OVER THE WORLD….A RATIONAL FANTASY Vertical gardens take over the world. C. Brad Peterson has many ideas for environmental management and landscape architecture. This is one idea that appeals to me as it would be useful to apartment dwellers and urbanites. Part of it is being able to bring it indoors during the winter. Brad has been an ecologist for over 29 years. His specialty is to find effective solutions for sustainable maintenance and design. His work reduces greenhouse gases and helps you reduce operating costs. He has completed many projects over the years. He works with other experts to use renewable energy systems for electricity and hot water. He has storm water management for zero lot runoff and he can design systems for rain water re-use for toilet, laundry and landscape irrigation. Something that might become very important is job creation in a diverse green economy. To me, all this and vertical gardens are a rational fantasy. For consultation about how you can develop your lot or farm pond, call C. Brad Peterson at 1-519-763-5260 or visit his website at www.bradpeterson.ca ********************
GREEN NEWS AND VIEWS ………..A CORNUCOPIA OF IDEAS AND OPINIONS
If you are the same as me, you have heard enough about same sex issues...lets not whip a sore horse. NAFTA is a sore horse we should put out of it's misery. Deep integration is a muscular horse that we need to look at his teeth, and if it has a wolf's tooth, we need to chisel it out. Our lakes and rivers....are they getting worse? We need to get rid of the coal generation. Uranium power would eliminate a huge amount of carbon dioxide. I have an 80 year old friend (quite a horse) that served in WWII and still can't find a doctor. He needs new knees and can't seem to get any help. ADVERTISEMENT Just a reminder that the Organic Farmer's Market is still starting June 23 '06 at 3:30 or 4:00 pm. It is located on the south west corner of Hwy 93 and the old Barrie highway in Dalston. It is just east of Hwy 400 on Hwy 11. ********************* My friend Jacoby-Hawkins tells me that the conservative, liberals and NDP are stealing Green Party ideas and projects. I agree with him and am delighted he is going to run in the Barrie municipal elections in November in ward 10. Eric is quite a green guy and if you want to know how to have a green lawn without pesticides, talk to Eric. He has a lot of environmental ideas and projects. If you would like to see a green guy get elected, phone him at 705-730-7591 and ask how you could help out. Volunteers and donations are especially welcome. It sure would be great to see him get elected. Phone Eric at (705) 730-7591 and ask how to have a pesticide free lawn.
My friend George R. Grant has an article called "A safe and profitable investment strategy for retired folks". You can see it by clicking on the link on the left hand side.
IS IT REALLY TRUE... THERE IS A LOT OF GRAY. ARE POLITICIANS TRAILING BADLY? IS THERE POLLUTION IN AFRICA?
IS IT REALLY TRUE……..THERE IS A LOT OF GRAY. Is it really true my friends? I have wondered along with others, do things really work out the way they are supposed to work? Does prudence in living style, investment and honest toil on the job really beat reckless day trading and a sinecure for a job? Is the world a better place than it was 50 or 100 years ago? Is truth black and white, yes or no, or is there a lot of gray in between?
I do know this, that some people predict and know the future better than others. That some do the right things regardless of public opinion. The idea that we do not know what the future holds or that “no one can forecast the future” is disputed by people like Harry S. Dent Jr. and put to the test by people like Jim Dines who has been hinting at the future for 40 years, with tremendous success. With the advent of computers, we can “Data Mine” and glimpse into the future and change for the better. Our progress is not limited by our past and social progress need not be a mirror image of our former days. The only problem with the middle way is that to make progress, you have to be at one extreme or the other and appear wrong or out of touch with a majority. Is truth really black or white? As long as a positive has a 50 + 1 chance of succeeding and we make that choice, isn’t the world a better place? Isn’t a small step in the right direction even by a small minority as certain as the dawn, that the world will change for the better?
ARE…….. POLITICIANS TRAILING BADLY? Are questions the answer? Am I a fool for having reduced my electricity use every month for the last 3 years when the cost of power was so low? When other people and business squander the use of power, am I being a door mat to try and use less so there is more for the others? We have been exceedingly slow to adopt higher prices for power and exceedingly slow to adopt conservation in our power use. The politicians are trailing badly in adoption of conservation ideas.
IS THERE POLLUTION IN AFRICA? Where are all the old cars and SUV’s going? Are they going to Africa to pollute over there?
JACK ...........SPROUTING FROM BARRIE ALTERNATIVES ............BY GEORGE IS IT A HOUSE...........OR A SCHOOL?
JACK............ SPROUTING FROM BARRIE. I am very happy that people in Ontario are going to be able to get contracts with Ontario Hydro to sell back to the power grid their surplus solar energy. This and other wind power alternatives are a step forward. We need more projects of this sort to help with power generation. It may not be the total answer to our energy needs, however, it will make us all feel better.
ALTERNATIVES ………….. BY GEORGE: Oil will only get more expensive if we keep consuming two barrels for every new barrel we find, and supply of electricity from all options will get short unless we devise new technologies. The Ontario Power Authority recently recommended that, since more power and electricity will be needed, we should consider renewable energy source, conservation/efficiency, natural gas for peak periods and more nuclear generation. Others have recommended clean coal because of improving technology and ample supplies of coal. They have also recommended greater efficiency in the use of oil. However: renewable energy is limited in supply, conservation/efficiency is limited in potential, natural gas faces future shortages as does oil, clean coal is in development stages, and nuclear power faces high up-front costs, long development times and complex waste disposal issues. Therefore....we need a careful, staged approach. In the short term, we should maintain and clean our coal generation plants to avoid electricity shortages and gradually reduce pollution, to expand natural gas for peak periods, and to increase investment in renewable energy conservation/efficiency. Then, as time passes and needs grow beyond these measures, we must bring in more carefully researched big guns of clean coal and nuclear energy. In these ways, we can avoid both energy/power and pollution crises and face the future more confidently.
IS IT A SCHOOL OR A HOUSE………YOU BE THE JUDGE Harper has told his members that they are only to talk about the 5 topics that the party is going to put forward. There are reports that each conservative MP is to report any local questions and only give back the party line. From where? (Maybe the PMO's office?) Does this sound like democracy? To me it sounds like the tail is wagging the dog if our MP's can only discuss certain things. They appear to be more like a school of fish and this is a pile of them 3 days old. In fairness, I think I need to say there is more than one kind of stinky fish. ***************** The Dines Letter, a financial newsletter that promotes Mr. Dines and the "original uranium bug" is contemplating cutting off subscriptions because they more the market when he recommends a position.
